Privacy Policy
Your privacy matters. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit, how we use it, and the choices and rights you have.

Overview
The CurrentPrisonList("we," "us") operates a free, public-records jail roster directory. This Privacy Policy describes our practices for information collected through the site. It does not apply to the third-party government agencies whose public records we index, or to any external site you reach through a link from ours.
Information we collect
We keep data collection to a minimum. The categories below cover everything we handle:
- Public records data
- The jail roster and booking information we display comes from public government sources. It is not collected from you and is not personal information you provided to us.
- Usage & analytics data
- Like most websites, we collect aggregate, non-identifying analytics such as pages viewed, approximate region, referring site, device and browser type, and time on page, to understand traffic and improve the directory.
- Log data
- Our servers may automatically record standard technical details, including IP address, request time, and the pages requested, for security, diagnostics, and abuse prevention.
- Information you submit
- If you contact us or file a removal or correction request, we collect the details you provide — typically your name, email address, the page URL, and your message — solely to handle that request.
How we use information
We use the information described above to:
- operate, maintain, and secure the directory;
- measure traffic and improve performance, content, and usability;
- review and respond to removal, correction, and general inquiries;
- detect, prevent, and address technical issues, abuse, or unlawful activity; and
- comply with legal obligations.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) or the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- request correction or deletion of that information;
- opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (we do not sell it); and
- not receive discriminatory treatment for exercising your rights.
To exercise any of these rights regarding information you submitted to us, contact us through the request form. Note that the underlying public records themselves are maintained by government agencies; see the next section.
Public records and removal requests
The roster data we display originates from public government records. Because of this, permanently changing the underlying record usually requires action by the source agency. We will, however, promptly review reasonable requests to correct or remove a specific page on our site, at no charge. We never publish mugshots and never charge a removal fee.
Submit requests through our free removal & correction request page.
Data retention and security
We retain analytics and log data only as long as needed for the purposes described above, and we keep removal-request correspondence long enough to process and document the request. We use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect information, but no method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children's privacy
This site is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy and contact
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically; the "last updated" date above reflects the current version. Material changes will be posted on this page. For privacy questions or to exercise your rights, reach us through the contact & request form. See also our terms of use and disclaimer.
